The Wood

Blankenship Woodworks specializes in creating beautiful one-of-a-kind furniture from local wood. Here in Hawai'i, we have amazing tropical hardwood tree species living all around us.

We are incredibly fortunate to have a partnership with several trusted local sawmills. From big slabs to dimensional lumber, we get everything from our local sawyers. Tree trimmers and excavators bring their logs and cut-offs to these mills, saving tons of beautiful wood that would otherwise be headed to a landfill. The wood we use is truly a renewable resource.

We have some of the most beautiful wood in the whole world growing here in the islands. Everyone knows about Koa, but there are also dozens of other species growing around us right before our eyes. Everything we use in our furniture was grown right here in the island and milled locally. Each and every slab has a character all its own.

The Woodworker

My name is Todd Blankenship and I am a Woodworker. I am grateful for the opportunity to share the beauty of our local hardwoods with my customers and create pieces that will last for generations.

I was born and raised in the neighborhood of Kaimuki in Honolulu, Hawai'i. I attended 'Iolani School and then went off to college at the University of Arizona. Shortly after graduation I found my path to woodworking when I renovated my childhood home. During that renovation, I realized that store-bought furniture available in Hawai'i wasn't the quality or style I was looking for. I became intrigued by local hardwoods and found a passion for woodworking while building the furniture for our home. I then spent two years with Woodworking Hawai'i, where I learned valuable lessons as the Shop Manager and gained a great appreciation for the beauty and variety of local woods. The next stop in my professional education was with King Builders, Inc. where I worked alongside a master carpenter building some of the most beautiful homes in Hawai'i.

In 2017, I decided to start my own shop. I love the entire process of woodworking and I feel so fortunate to be able to do this every day.
